Grandchildren

I am so glad Irene taught me how to show my love. Whenever I see my grandchildren, I always say I love them when I leave, and it feels so good when they say it back. I have a granddaughter and a grandson; they both live on the island with their parents. Both of my sons live here on the island. This is something I never thought would happen when they grew up, but I’m glad it worked out this way. Riley and Jake are two years apart, and it is so nice to see how they play with each other when we get together.

Jake was named after a man on the island who was kind to everyone. In fact, he is the man who owned the gas station and told us not to worry about the gas shortage, filling my car every day when my baby sister was sick. I remember that if you had a check and needed it cashed on a weekend, that is where you would go. They are four and six years old, and they both have a special spot in my heart.
